Neck Lift in Scottsdale

A lean, elegant neck and well-defined jawline are appealing qualities that can enhance anyone’s appearance. Improving an aged, wrinkled or thick neck and poorly defined jawline can make someone look younger, healthier and leaner — even without making any other changes to the rest of the face.

Dr. Genaro Valladolid has extensive experience in neck contouring procedures and has achieved outstanding results with neck liposuction and neck lift. He educates all of his patients about the available options, and has a strong sense of the type of result each procedure would provide to each individual patient. Patients are grateful for Dr. Valladolid’s expert advice and compassionate guidance.

Neck Lift vs. Neck Liposuction

There are two ways to recontour the neck and chin area and achieve a firmer, smoother and more graceful appearance.

Neck lift removes excess skin and fat from the neck and under the chin. The ideal candidate for neck lift is bothered by:

  • Loose, sagging skin in the lower face and on the neck
  • Fat underneath the chin and on the neck
  • Wrinkles and creases on the neck
  • Vertical neck muscle bands

Neck liposuction removes excess fat from the neck and under the chin. The ideal candidate for neck lift has fullness under the chin and on the neck that gives the lower face a heavy appearance. Candidates should have firm, elastic skin that can retract over the neck once the fat has been removed.

Neck Liposuction in Mesa, AZ

Candidates for neck lift and neck liposuction should be in good health and free of any medical conditions that could affect the healing process. Candidates should not smoke (or be able to quit several weeks prior to and after surgery). Candidates should have specific, reasonable expectations of surgery.

Treatment Details

Neck liposuction is an outpatient procedure performed with anesthesia. Dr. Valladolid creates one or two small incisions beneath the chin or underneath the ears, and inserts a slender, hollow tube called a cannula through the incisions. Moving the cannula back and forth, Dr. Valladolid breaks up the unwanted fat before removing it from the neck and area underneath the chin. He is careful to leave a thin layer of fat to maintain a smooth, normal-looking contour in the treated area.

Neck lift is also an outpatient procedure performed with general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Dr. Valladolid creates incisions behind the ears (in some cases, he creates an additional incision underneath the chin). He lifts and tightens the underlying tissues and tightens the neck muscles. Then, he removes excess fat and skin, and re-drapes the skin more smoothly over the newly contoured neck.

Neck contouring can be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures to produce more comprehensive results. For example, neck liposuction can be combined with the placement of a chin implant to add definition and projection to a weak or receding chin. Or, neck lift or neck liposuction can be combined with rhinoplasty to improve balance between the nose and the chin and jawline.

Recovering from Neck Lift/Liposuction

After neck contouring, bruising, swelling and tightness in the neck are common. Dr. Valladolid provides detailed instructions for minimizing these aftereffects and managing any pain or discomfort.

Recovery time after neck contouring depends on the extent of surgery. Most patients are able to resume work and most of their daily activities within two weeks of surgery.

Neck Lift FAQ

What Can I Expect of My Neck Lift Surgery Results?

Neck lift surgery in ScottsdaleWhen it comes to neck lift results, patience is critical. It can take as long as six months for the final results to settle into place, after the swelling has subsided and the neck has fully healed.

The good news is that patience is rewarded. Your neck lift results should last approximately 10 years, though that timeframe can be extended with proper care. By staying out of the sun and applying skin care you are likely to maximize the results. Unfortunately, while neck lift reverses the signs of aging, it does not stop aging altogether. Over time, your skin will sag and develop wrinkles once again.

If you undergo neck liposuction, the fat cells removed during this procedure are gone permanently. By maintaining a healthy diet moving forward, the results achieved from liposuction should last indefinitely.

What Is the Difference Between Neck Lift and Facelift?

PlatysmaplastyMost of the facelift procedures that Dr. Valladolid performs address the fine lines and wrinkles that form on the lower portion of the face, while also incorporating traditional elements of neck lift. If your main concerns are the appearance of jowls and loose skin along the neck rather than wrinkles near the mouth, a neck lift procedure may be sufficient to rejuvenate your face without the need for a full facelift. Dr. Valladolid would be happy to offer his expert opinion during a consultation so you can choose the right procedure for your face.

Can I Combine Neck Lift with Other Procedures?

For his patients who are in good health, Dr. Valladolid regularly combines neck lift with another surgery. Some patients want brow lift or blepharoplasty to ensure the top of their faces look as rejuvenated as their necks. Others opt to have the liposuction performed on other problem areas such as the thighs or love handles in addition to the neck. Your own aesthetic goals are what matter, and Dr. Valladolid would be happy to discuss solutions to achieve that for you.

How Much Does Neck Lift Cost?

Because Dr. Valladolid customizes each neck lift surgery to the unique needs of the patient, the price for this procedure can vary depending on the extent of the work and liposuction that is required. Beyond the cost of surgery, patients are responsible for anesthesia and facility fees. Dr. Valladolid will provide you with a complete quote at the time of your consultation so you can make an informed decision accordingly.

Are There Non-Surgical Alternatives to Neck Lift?

While injectables like Botox and dermal fillers can be used to mimic the effects of neck lift, patients will need to temper their expectations. The results achieved with injectables will not be nearly as dramatic as surgery and, of course, are temporary. Still, if you prefer a non-invasive treatment to tighten up loose skin and do not mind coming in for touch-ups every several months, then Dr. Valladolid would be happy to discuss what you can realistically expect from injectables during a consultation.
