Adding Definition to Your Face with Implants

The eyes and lips get a lot of attention when it comes to facial beauty, but if you really stop to examine what makes a man or woman’s face attractive, you may discover that certain features like a strong jawline or prominent cheekbones are what really sets a face apart. Elite plastic surgeon Dr. Genaro Valladolid has worked with many patients who complain of “weak” chins or gaunt cheeks, transforming their faces with small implants.

Types of Facial Implants

At Valladolid Plastic Surgery, Dr. Valladolid performs three types of facial implant surgeries:

Cheek: Many of us are not blessed with naturally sharp cheekbones, but that’s nothing that a little cosmetic enhancement cannot fix. As you get older, your cheeks lose their volume. The mere act of adding dimension to your cheeks should help rejuvenate the face and leave you looking years younger.

Chin: If your chin does not protrude enough to give your face good proportions, an implant can extend it to generate balance across the whole face. It can also help reduce the appearance of a double chin by having it jut out more.

Jaw: Those with weak jawlines altogether may benefit from implants that run longer across the bottom of their face. Jaw implants add clear definition and are particularly popular with men who want to enhance their looks.

Procedure and Recovery Details

Implants are not one-size-fits-all. Ahead of any surgery, you will be asked to look at various shapes, sizes and materials to find an implant that can provide you with the precise look you are hoping to achieve. Better yet, Dr. Valladolid has computer software that allows you both to see the shape each implant would create for your face.

Incisions for these procedures are typically made inside the mouth, making it remarkably easy to conceal any scarring from plain sight. Through these incisions, Dr. Valladolid carefully inserts the implant amidst the existing facial tissue to create an enlarged appearance.

Following facial implant surgery, you will probably need a week or two to rest and relax before returning to work — that will allow time for the swelling and bruising to subside. Put off any strenuous exercise for at least six weeks, as you do not want to unnecessarily jostle the implant as it heals and settles.

Facial implants are durable and should last a lifetime. However, if in the future you decide you no longer want the augmentation, it is possible to reverse the surgery by removing the implant.
